Started in the dark and finished with a full bu. at 11:00. 1000' Snood line with chix. necks in 3' - 6' of water. Was pretty slow with 4- 5 crabs a run pretty much the norm. DNR stopped by for a visit as I was pulling the line, no safety check, just stopped by, he said I did better than the other 23 people he checked on, guess others had it rougher than I did, fished the poop plant hump and had all the 10" blues I could catch. Had a ton of crabs drop off early today, guess traps would have been a better bet today. All the crabs were atleast dark and heavy.

:eek2:

Man,
I can't believe you crab over there. I've worked at the Grace plant on Curtis Creek and after seeing their "water filtration system" to flush out the plant, I will never go near, fish, or even think about eating anything out of those waters. The amount of Amonia and acids in that wash, along with the chemicals they produce there is, in my opinion,:eek2: hazardous.

Problem is, thats only one of a dozen plants down there.

Has anyone ever been sickened from any catches over there?

Aaron - I ffel your concerns, I often wonder the same, I've worked at FMC, Hess etc.........
I haven't fallen ill and I've eaten CC crabs for 2 years now, you know the old saying, a crab caught in CC today might have been at the Bay Bridge yesterday and vice versa

If I die in a year it was probably the crabs...............
Lots of comm.'s out there so if you buy crabs they might be Patapsco crabs

C'mon Tony, get your facts straight. I hesitate to respond to posts on here anymore because of crap like this, but I feel the need on this one even though rj doesn't need me to defend him. GET IT RIGHT OR DON'T POST ANYMORE. FACT IS, you couldn't be further from the truth.

I'll admit it, I crabbed the Patapsco for yrs.

RJ wouldn't touch the place because of pollution from Beth Steel.
Those are the FACTS!!

It's been about 2-3 years...he was catching crabs in that river and selling them to/from BONNIES I believe it was......I got the info from someone that caught him red handed so to speak......

One thing I don't do is lie.

Tony, care to share your source? Why keep it a secret?
Maybe it's that person that should be held accountable for mis-information.

BTW - Bonnies which is now Coveside crabs won't except anything but the best from trotliners. That's a fact too!

I once questioned DNR about this, and their answer was that crabs do not live long enough to buil up hazardouse levels of toxins in the meat. The mustard is another subject from that area and covered by the fish and shellfish restrictions.

This from the MDE Website, note the comment in the past paragraph about restricting mustard consumption from the Northern Bay (That being North of the Magothy River)

Crab Monitoring

Between 2001-2003 blue crabs were sampled in the following locations throughout Maryland:

Chesapeake Bay:

- off Hart-Miller Island
- mouth of Fairlee Creek
- near Sandy Point
- off Tilghman Point
- off Fairhaven
- between Cedar & Cove Points
- off Point No Point
Gunpowder River
Patapsco River/Baltimore Harbor
Potomac River

Crabmeat and hepatopancreas (also known as “mustard” or green gland) were analyzed separately. While crabmeat was low in contaminants, the “mustard” contained elevated levels of PCBs and other contaminants in the following locations:

Cedar Point,
Fairlee Creek,
Hart-Miller Island,
Middle River, and
Patapsco River/Baltimore Harbor.

Specific recommendations for crab “mustard” have not been developed for all locations, however in general, it is advised that the crab “mustard” from crabs taken from the Northern Chesapeake Bay (above Magothy River) should be consumed in moderation, while “mustard” from the above locations should be eaten sparingly and avoided for the crabs from the Patapsco River/Baltimore Harbor.

Nice Catch !! Enjoy

sorry in advance about the rant, but I gotta send a message to the ANT____ since he has chosen your thread to continue spreading his Lies about me

1fullstring & done workn

Good observation- that is the reason I don't crab inside the Potapsco. the health advisories for there are issued by the MDE not the DNR. check out their latest fish & shelfish consumption advisory here. remember they are "in agregate per month" with all species combined, if you exceed in 1 species (eg: 1 lb rockfish filets) you have exceded your recomended # of meals for that month for all species.

It would certainly be appreciated if you would stop spreading Lies about me
Lie #1

"Just ask RJ...he's been known to frequent that area:rolleyes:

Tony"

my last trip to the Potapsco was in June of 2000-also the last time I was checked by the DNR.
I ate some of those crabs and shared them with some freinds- their comments are as follows
"where did theese come from"
"they tase funny"
"they taste like the sewer"
"they taste like S__T"
"I hope you never go there again"
"I didn't want to say anything but they don"t tase very good"

I had to agree

I have never been back

Lie #2
"It's been about 2-3 years...he was catching crabs in that river and selling them to/from BONNIES I believe it was......I got the info from someone that caught him red handed so to speak...... "

see the last time I was in the potapsco in the above response

lie #4
"RJ got caught ....and that's that. I'm not gonna do like M. Vicks buddies"

I guess Lie #1,2 & 3 just breeds annother lie-trying to make excuses for being caught in a Lie?

Oh and M. Vick and his buddies like him, are NOT one of my favorite people
