August 28-29 – Capt. Mark DeBlasio and Capt. Tom Kelly had an open boat trip out on Tuesday to Wednesday with Joe Scott, Mark Garretson, Bill Matyi, Tim Hines, Vinny Johnson and Yuzo. They ran in between the Hudson and Toms and chunked there at night only to pull 4 yellowfin at night and released a small sword. They ran down just north of the northeast corner of Toms and put out the spread and before all the lines were in they pulled a longfin. They worked from there to the tip and picked 3 more longfin and a yellowfin. The hot lure today was a new creation Capt. Mark has been running which is a rainbow green machine spreader bar. Nothing new as these lures have been around for a while but Capt. Mark has been given it a good test run the last few weeks and it seems to be something we need to add to our arsenal.
Capt. Phil Dulanie and Capt. Mark DeCabia had the Erik Neilson charter out on the Canyon Runner Tuesday to Wednesday and leaving the dock around 3pm decided to go right to the chunk a little further south of the south Toms and set up in 625 feet of 77 degree water. They did not have much going on until 11pm when the fish came under the boat and the kept them there all night. Jigs, sardines, live squid all proved effective and the charter boated 15 nice yellowfin and released at boatside another 5. These fish are all around 60-80 pounds.
