This is usually the time of year for this technique to start being real productive. Anyone heard of anybody trying yet?

longfin which canyon are you thinking of daytime chunking? better bet would be the overnight variety in the wilmington.. hell of a sword bite last night.

Canyon doesn't matter. I'd love to do another overnighter but I'm taking 2 real good friends who tend to turn green and I don't wanna deal with that all night. On the other hand I'd love to get a sword and load the boat with yellowfin again, if that forecast stays at 2-4' I might be able to convince them. did they do any good on the tuna last night?

what i heard it was a slow pick of yellowfin through the night with no hot bite.. the best tuna bite is north of that in the spencer. the waters right around 71 but holding lots of fish. i dont think your going to have much luck in waters south of the wilmington though.

Longfin chunking during the day up in the Norfolk Canyon used to be very productive. Key word "Used to be". The fish have not been int he numbers and staying in a certain area like they used to do 5 plus years ago. The same is for down in OI when we used to limit out by chunking. Now nobody chunks down out of OI anymore.
Be brave and try it out and post your results. Can't hurt.

3 weeks ago we absolutely slaughtered the yellowfins on an overnighter in the baltimore when everyone said there were none there and all I've heard from people is what a terrible year its been for tuna and I've had my best year in the past 10 years:confused:
Thats it, I'm taking the pontoon boat togging in the bay:fishing2:

thats pretty impressive if this year is your best Tuna year in 10. Walk the docks and ask them if its the same for them......

Been a sad year for us. Caught a 65 lb YF last Saturday morning around 4:30 AM. Left the dock at midnight to the balt. Daybreak we trolled the 100 line for awhile then turned toward the dog. The only thing we had going was the weeds. Hoping these fish up north give us a shot when they come by.

3 weeks ago the water that was sitting in the wilmington canyon slid south overnight and for 2 complete days it was an all out blitz in both canyons.. since as easily seen a piece slid right through from the east and didnt even cause the two to mix, instead the good was pushed back north... and has continued its slide out through the spencer right on through the lindy. the water in the baltimore has no real concentrations of fish, atleast the reports ive been recieveing... but all these boats have been inside the 500.. maybe something exists deeper into the canyon on the drift chunk???
