I'll try and make this as short as I can: We made our annual trip to OC this pass week for some striper and tog and we were not disappointed other then the weather. My crew was my good friend Dave Poole and in the other boat was Chilli (Travis) my Son-In-Law Firefish (Rob) and Rob’s good friend Jeremy. I hope I can get this right
Wednesday: We got on the water around 6:30 and Dave and I decided to try our luck for some stripers so we drifted the inlet and on our first pass Dave hooked up to a nice 22" and the on the 2nd pass Dave hooked up again on a 22"er, 3rd pass we came up with nothing but on the 4th pass I hooked up to a very fat 34"er but that was it for the stripers. Dave and I then went for some Tog and boy did we get into some nice ones, we got our limited Thanks to Mike Rose who showed us his hot spot and I know Dave and I caught over 50 tog with the biggest at 17". Travis took his crew out in the ocean and boy did they catch some nice fish, they all got there limited of tog and sea bass and Jeremy got a citation Sea Bass that went 21" WTG Jeremy.
Thursday: We woke up with winds out of the North West at 25 but we said what the heck lets got for it and I'm glad we did, Dave and I did not catch any stripers but we did get back into some very nice Tog and we kept 8 of them but had to get off the water at 12:30 because the wind was blowing about 30. Travis took Jeremy to in the ocean and they got into some tog and I think they got there limited; Rob had to go home Thursday morning because of a family emergency and it was just not the same without him. We had to get off the water at 12:30 but we gave it all we could.
Friday: Boy what a day this was, the wind was blowing 30 when we woke up but being the fisherman as we are we gave it a try and boy what a mistake that was, Dave and I try to anchored up on the South jetty but it was very tough and that damn Travis took Jeremy out ion the ocean but that was short lived they got hammered going out and coming in, Dave and I only caught 1 keeper and I think Travis did manage a few keeper tog but we got off the water at 9:30 just a tad to rough for my little skiff.
Saturday: We got on the water at 6 and again Dave and I try for some stripers but no luck. We then went back to our same spot that we caught all of out Tog and again we got back into some nice ones. We had our limit of 5 each and I did manage a very nice 19” it was the biggest of our trip, but to add to a list of different things to catch, Dave caught a BIG snail and I caught a Star Fish. Now Travis and Jeremy headed for the ocean were they caught there limit of Tog a nice 20” flounder and Travis caught a very nice 40” striper WTG Travis, but there unusually catch was a squid.
I would like to thank Travis, Jeremy, Dave and Rob for another GREAT time in OC and one of these years we are going to have good weather for the whole week. A Special thanks to Michael Rose for helping Dave and I find some tog, sorry we could not hook up and fish together but side by side was a lot of fun.
