12/5/07 Chesapeake Bay Fishing Report
By Capt. Jim Brincefield d/b/a “Jil Carrie” Charter Fishing
Fishing from the wharf at Long Bay Pointe Bait & Tackle, Lynnhaven, VA Beach, VA
After 2 days sitting at the wharf waiting for the wind to quit, we finally got back out there today. Today's sea condition was great and the bite was much better than Sunday. We had a good and steady bite except for about an hour on slack tide. We did a full day charter (8 hours) today for our good friend Mr. Jim "Lead Rod" (pronounced LEEEEEEED)Boland and friends for a total of 8 anglers. We headed out to the 4th island of the CBBT for our fourth Striped Bass ("Rockfish") trip of the early Fall 2008 season. Maybe "4" is our lucky Rockfish number! Mr. T.J. Reiber of NOVA served as 1st Mate today.
We trolled and spanked 35 portly Rockfish ranging from 20" up to 39.25" (keeping the largest 20 Rockfish for our limit and releasing the rest). 6 of our Rockfish releases were slot fish releases ranging from 28.25" up to 33.75". Our keepers included 2 overs tying our record so far for the Fall. A new Fall record of 39.25" was established as well, so a good day all around. We got a bit frustrated with 2 of our lures (1 bucktail and 1 storm shad) when big Rockfish straightened the hook and escaped! "The Big One that got away"...
