im looking at getting a handheld vhf as a back up and for a ditch bag... can anyone elaborate on cobra marine radios?

I bought a two pack at West for around $75.00. I have had them for about two years and they still work well. They are okay in the bay, but they aren't very powerful. I would rather have a more powerful Icom handheld for the ocean.
