Ok,
What is the negitive effects of running an outboard when it is cold outside?

you have to wear more clothes:))...
on a serious note, I've been running my 150 for 7 years every month of the year and knock on wood no problems yet. It seems more things break on the boat itself from being frozen then anything else. just make sure you drain it well after each trip.

The old carbed ones are crankier than usual about starting, and need a little longer to get warmed up and running properly. Other than that, I haven't had any issues.

Newer outboards- NONE as Gary stated- warm the older ones up.

Usally means that there are 7,000 of your closest frends trolling at the speed of smell for these agrivating striped critters while freezing and trying to imitate the best scenes of the Dealest Catch scaled down for the Chesapeake.........and occasionally divorce (just ask me) LOL
