I'm heading down to Marco Island the second week of May and I'm wondering if its worth bringing a rod. I don't want to hire a boat, so any baits/techniques & locations would be a huge help! Any advice?

lots of people fish under the Marco Bridge. Also, buy some live shrimp and fish in any canal, you will catch

I would recommend going to the Fl Board not the Keys since Marco is not in the Keys. However, there are plenty of wading ops all over Marco all the way to Chockoloskee. There are some Kayak rental places, lots of Kayak water all over the area, definitely worth a look.

hey i fished in marco during june and it was good....really good early and late tho...nothing during the day.....caught more fish just me and my pops and some live shrimp on the beach and near a few small jetties than we did in a couple of days of guided charters....snook, ladies, speckled trout, little jew fish, spadefish, grunts, puppy drum...the works.....wish we had a similar net ban here in NC like they do in FLA....the inshore...fishing there is pretty epic...
best baits for us were live shrimp haha...doa terror eyes, yozuri crystal minnows (floating and neutral boyancy/dark green back), top water plugs early if fishing in the mangroves, and johnson silver minnows all around...

cheers
