We were reliving past fishing trips and the Mackerel run came up.It's been years since we have done this-maybe 10 yrs ago.
Just curious if anyone went this year.

I have'nt heard of a run this season except for way up north but I have been trying to find reports. I'd love to fill the cooler with some good shark baits.

Everytime I've called to get some bostons from the seafood distributors, they don't have any. Some came in the other day and they sold them all before I could get there. Was told it's mostly due to the weather keeping the trawlers at dock as oppose to the fish not being there.

It's been about 15 yrs since I've caught any mackerel out of OCMD.

Hey Skip, i remember that was a yearly ritual, until the foreign commercail boats whipped them out. It just hasn't been the same since. The last time I did it was three years ago and it was nothing like the good old days

Ditto. Last year I caught any mackerel was 1991. I have video of us pulling them over the gunnel 3 and 4 at a time, but that was 1987. Then the bluefish soon followed. They have dropped off too. The bluefish are back, but not in the numbers they were years ago.
