A zoo on the South River today. Got in at 4:35 and went to my favorite spot. Half of it was taken and I was glad I had the other half. The other boat started way early but I am not a snitch or the DNR so I waited and laid 30 traps. Started off pretty good but and hour later another boat laid 30 traps 50 feet parallel to mine. I told the guy he was too close and he moved them about 30 more feet away. As he was doing that a guy blew by between us and I was beginning to remember crabbing on a holiday. A few hours later a man and his son anchored right in the middle of my trap line and began hand lining crabs, putting many small crabs in the basket. I told him he needed to be 100 feet from my lay and he ignored me. I went around him and finished with a good half bushel. The wakes got bad from all the big boats going to get set up for the fireworks so in we went. The DNR was in front of Oak Grove marina doing nothing. I just grin and bear it as it's not worth fighting about. Gary

I was out on the 3rd and there were probably just as many jackas**s out there. I was out and had my gear set and here comes a comm. guy laying his line literally 10ft from me. Right along my string of traps. I was polite and even asked if he wanted me to move. But we were pulln steady crabs and he was gettn jack s**t. He picked up and moved to the out side of us and still nuthn. We ran 30 traps 5 times stacked a full bushel full of heavy 7 and 8 inchers and left at 10am. DONT BE AN A** AND LAY YOUR GEAR NEXT TO SOMEONE IF YOUR NOT CATCHING CRABS.

I forgot to mention in the post about all the small crabs caught yesterday. We had 3 times the amount of small crabs caught as we kept. When I say small, I mean 2-4 inchers. I don't keep a ruler on the boat because I don't keep anything under 6" so all the 5 inchers went back also. It's annoying when you are crabbing but a good sign for the general population.

:censored:My boat doesn't leave the yard on holiday weekends just because of that. You get all the idiots that go 3 times a year and don't even belong out there. They are just plain dangerous and stupid.

Not sure but I believe the 100' rule only applies to trot lines? Still, people should not through right on top of another.

Sounds like the old days to me. Back in the mid 70's to early 80's when i was working for my grandfather on comm. you get to close or go over the line it got cut no, if, ands or buts about it. Not saying it was right.

I remember the good ole days. I got on the police dept in 1974 and everything was different! I have had enough confrontations with that job and don't need any more. If crabbing or hunting becomes too confrontational...........I'll quit. Not worth it........Gary

I was out on the 3rd also and the same little old guy has no courtesy on the water. He came in about 7 or so and dropped his line right next to ours. He also did it the week before on a Friday and then Saturday laid it right across our line. I yelled at him on Friday and he didn't move. On Saturday he moved since I had 2 guys on the boat one over 6'5. He bolted out towards the mouth and probably crossed someone else. I say you should stay 100 feet or more away unless you ask the guy that was there first. It costs a lot on money to run down there and you shouldn't screw around with other peoples stuff. On Friday he did donuts around my jug and cut the freakin line which cost us about 30 minutes of fixen it up. So if you come in close without asking the old knife may come out!!! Have fun with that!!!
