I was hoping you guys could provide some advise on a (make/model) of a boat that a single person pulling traps could use. I'm thinking of a side console where I could leanover and pull traps as I went along. I would also use it for flounder fishing in the back bays. :helpsmilie:
Thanks for your input.

i have an 18' lowe side console easy to pull traps from, prefer to have someone with me though, have fished with the boat in indian river inlet, trolling the chesapeake, sea ducking the mouth of the chester, very versatile boat that i highly recommend.

You may want to check out Carolina Skiff 16-17'.

Side console makes it nice to drop traps, how ever pulling them up with crab inside would seem kinda tight.i have a center console lowe 20' & it seems to work good for me as i am usuallly alone.go with the length that is large enough for the waters you want to fish or crab.good luck

Jim,
I have a 18 cc parker that would be great for trot lining but I'm a trap puller at heart. The cc is difficult to ease the boat next to the trap, step away from the console, pull the trap standing up, and start all over again on the next trap. I thought it would be easier to be able to sit on my butt pull the trap and move to the next. Maybe I have to think about this some more. I got some good suggestions from the fellas above to explore.

I crab from a 19 foot CS CC with a 35 HP Honda and it is enough for my needs. I can get anywhere I want to on the boat quick . I can pick up traps from either side. I can run trotline on it fine too. It is stable for crabbing and fishing in the tribs. I rarely go into Ebay or main stem but could if I chose to.
I like to stand and walk around vs sitting. It is better for me.

You can have a Carolina rigged with the console on the side if you wish...Have them move it up closer to the bow than usual and put your basket behind you. You can pull and dump as you move along...a 16 DLV would be great for it..
