Finally got an opportunity to fish offshore with good buddies Joe (BIGHEAD) and Adam (ADAMM) and George. The plan was to try the new bent butt rod on a planer and catch a wahoo.

Departed Rudee on the BIGHEAD at 4:20 a.m. beautiful ride out to the tip of the canyon. Deploy the planer rod and 5 minutes later, wham "there he his." After a suprisingly short fight we are "sinking steel" into a big wahoo. Wahoo in box, mission accomplished 7:30 a.m. Get the spread back out and drop the planer and 10 minutes go by and wham "there here is again" George handles the fight in the chair and is bringing another "slob" to the boat. 2 for 2 on the hoos. Troll up to the North wall of the canyon and see Mr. whitey behind the left flat, knocks it down and then he's gone. Oh well. Stay on the troll and another white tries to take our offering, but this this time Adam feeds the bait back and we've got a fish on!!! After a dazzling aerial display and hardy fight, we get the leader on a nice white marlin. After an exciting morning, we switch up and go for a few deep drops. Get our limit of nice size wreckfish and head to the barn with a box of fish. The wahoo's weighed in at 62 lbs. and 63 lbs. about 60 inches long. I caught the small one!!!!

Great day on the water with good friends and great fishing.

Isn't it nice when the plan comes together-those wahoo love the deep rod. One of the dock kids told me Joe had a couple of big ones, nice catch. Dave

the fish were caught just short of the tip of the canyon in 70 degree water in about 50 fathoms. The planer was down about 50 feet (100 feet of line out) est. Both on black and purple islander hoo combo
