Pickerel

Just recently became a fishing addict over the summer, and as the weather cools I keep on hearing about the pickerel biting in my nearby waters. Any help would be much appreciated ; lures, where to find them, what they eat, when they spawn, etc. I fish the tidal rivers in the Cheasapeke Bay, primarily the Severn and Magothy Rivers .
