Hi guy/gals,

after owning 2 new tiagra 50s for 2 years (I know, i know its sad, very sad), finally getting around to having custom rods built which should be delivered soon. My question is: how much 80lb diamond momoi can a 50A hold, yardage wise? Any input would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

Try Shimano's website
Tiagra A (http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/products/reels/conventional/Tiagra_A.html)

I have 400yds of 80# Momoi tied to 200 yds of 200# braid on mine. It wouldn't hold as much as I wanted of the 80# (maybe 500 yds). I tested it off of Hatteras May 1st last year and caught a 500 lb blue w/ it so thanks to the boys at Green Top Sporting Goods... the knot held. At one point she had 500 yds off the spool. It was a sick feeling seeing that knot holding the Momoi to the braid dangling over the ocean 50 yds from the boat! If I had not done the braid combo we would have been spooled. I could go w/ an 80W , but on a 23' Grady on stand-up equip it is too bulky.

By the sounds of it you have a 50 Wide. I think i got 500yrds of 80# on my 50 w not sure about a stright 50 I would say 350-400yrds

I would go with 50# momoi diamond or sufix for that reel or do a braid backing to get more line on the reel. I have all 50w spooled with sufix 80 and my stright 50s I have 50-60 sufix

Chiming in though you've probably heard all you need ;) My heaviest gear is a set of Penn 50S reels (not wide). I loaded them with 80 lb braid and 150 yards of 80lb mono. Great combo and I got in the neighborhood of 700 yards all told. I've seen that knot go out plenty of times - you get used to it!
