Any help on big catfish

Anybody had any luck with big cats in the James? Where is the spot? What's the best bait? Thanks! I only know saltwater.

I fish from anywhere from the 895 bridge to below Jordan Point. I use 7 to 7 1/2 foot med heavy rods outfitted with Abu 6500's. 80 lb Power pro braid with 60 lb floro leader. 8/0 to 10/0 circle hooks with a 8 oz to 10 oz pyramid or no roll sinkers. Keep a good eye on your finder. Fish along the channel edges or structure. I usually fish 8 to 10 rods. For bait the best IMO is fresh Gizzard Shad cut into chunks. The Gizzards can be caught using a cast net or a gill net on the river. Hope this helps, if you need further info feel free to send me a PM.

Fresh bait and channel edges, done deal. At least that's how it is on the Potomac. The 20 pound cats are so numerous it's stupid. The 30 pounders are everywhere too and several 50 pound fish are becoming more common. Not quite the size of the James yet but it will happen soon enough.

went monday left late I chartered Chris slow in the morning but from 1200 to 530 we caught 55,40 29 12 10 5 3 and an 1 pounder fresh bait was the ticket bigger the shad bigger the smell and bait = big FISH this time of the year remember to dress in layers look CHRIS Eberwien up

I caught my personal best today, a 40 pounder on "fresh" shad ....from UKROP's :)

Does anyone chum for cats, like when cobia fishing? Only seems logical to me.
