I need to replace a rod tip but not sure the best way to take the old one off. What would be the best way to do it?

Rod tips are usually put on with either furrule cement or epoxy. If it's furrule cement, just gently put a hook or paperclip in the tip ring and pull slightly while holding a match on the section that in on the blank. You want to use just enough heat to get it off.
If it is epoxied on, then you may have to cut it off. But there is a small chance you could put it in boiling water which sometimes can soften the epoxy enough to get it off. Some rodbuilders use this method to try to take reelseats and grips off. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. Just be careful not to over stress the blank.
good luck

Either way, take a lighter and heat the top ferrule and take plyers and pull off.
The next part is in CAPS for a reason:
WHILE HEATING THE FERRULE, DO NOT HEAT THE BLANK. ALSO AND YOU HAVE TO LISTEN HERE,,,,,,,,,,, DO NOT TWIST WHILE PULLING THE TIP OFF. YOU WILL DESTROY THE BLANK IF YOU DO THIS. Meerly heat and pull as you do it that way you do not cook the blank while heating. Once it moves, stop the heat!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good advice right there. I found out about twisting the hard way when I started.
