In process of purchasing new 40 hp motor for 18' skiff. Just checking for any feedback
on the pros & cons of the Honda 4-stroke 40 hp Tiller. They now are selling with a 5 year warranty. Appreciate your time.

From 1990 to 1998 I sold and serviced almost exclus. Honda outboards.
When I left to open my own dealership after doing some homework I choose to offer Yamaha and have to this day.
Here are the reasons why
1.Honda does biuld a good dependable 4-stroke outboard but the amount of dealer support they offer is very small since most of thier direction is towards the auto's.Very limited technical support.
2.The silver paint does not hold up well ,fades very quickly or starts to flake off qiucker than most
3.There low speed idle jets are so fine that they clogg way to easy
4.They suffer from coorrossion issue way quicker,in order to save money they borrow alot of chrome plated bolts , s/s clamps and external parts from thier auto division, the aluminum they use does not hold up well in saltwater for castings such as a lower unit in the 50-25 range will almost always crack at the exhaust with in 10 years.
