I want to try out braided line for trout fishing. I understand it will cast further. I have never used this line to cast. I have only used it to bottom fish. Here are my questions:
> What line works best for you brand and weight?
> What line not to use?
> What is the best knot for the fluorocarbon leader?
> What size leader material?
Ray
For Spotted Trout ???
I use 10lb Fireline...any color will do.
I always use an Albright knot for connecting to a leader.
And I always use 20lb flouro leaders.....Vanish flouro line.
You can use many other lines, but this is what I use and it works every time w/o trouble.

RayIf you intend on lure fishin I would stick with mono,8 to 10 pound, helps get your lures down JMHO. Unless jiggin grubs and stuff then the braid is your friend.
I would not use the flater lines like stren super braid, it digs in to itself. JMO
The best not to use in MHO is a bimmini to a bristol, thats a strong unit.
I like to use 20lb , your pretty safe with that, but if the fish are line shy you can scale back to 15lb. Flouro that is...
Iam a live baiter so I use power pro for that application, your line floats on the surface so you dont have line drag goin through the water, that means when you get bit and fish takes off with bait you dont have all that mono draging throuh the water putting up extra reseistence to notify the fish that something is not right. All this is JMO and what I do......

Go with 10# power pro or Fireline and a flouro leader. I have fished this for years and love it. Fishing with mono after fishing this braid is like fishing with a rubber band. These lines will last a long time, they cast great and you can feel every bump and bite.

Try the Sufix Performance Braid, its alot smoother than the power pro. If you want to spend the extra bucks I would try the new Samurai braid by Diawa, this stuff is almost as smooth as mono but cost almost double the other braids.
Hope this helps!

Actually, Stren Super Braid is a line that stays round--does not flatten out as most others do. Therefore, it comes off of the reel much smoother. Do wish that people would do the research before making unfounded comments. I use an albright knot to attach the running line to the leader, with the leader made from florocarbon line. There are probably several lines that one could use, it is just a matter of personal experience and preference. Good Luck!

Thanks for all the replies! Looks like the Albright know wins with 10lb braid. A fellow at the store recomended the stren super braid as well. Those trout need to look out this spring. I am looking forward to the extra cast distance and low strech to set that hook.
