What size rod and reel do you recommend for grouper/tiles? Can you use a 330? If so what size mono or braid do you need? Is there a better bait then squid?

You need a shimano tiagra 130 loaded (no backing) with 400lb power pro. Mounted on a custon bent butt rod. MANDATORY!!! If you dont spend $4000 on a deep dropping combo you wont catch a thing. Its a proven fact...

Just kiddin man, a 330 will be fine, just a little slow on the retrieve. I use 50-65lb power pro. Mount that reel on a MH Ugly stick and you will be fine.

Squid, cut false albacore, fresh bluefish, jigs...you name it. Try them out and see what works best for you.

A 330 will work if you like cranking it up from around 800 feet below......try a higher speed reel......toriums or saltist......we use Torium 30's on 6' 30-50lb class rods .....with 80# braid and a short top shot of 80 pound mono for abrasion resistance......we jig Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce (http://www.jerkthatjig.com) and use live and cut bait.......good luck if you go!

I use 30-50 CLASS Ugly Stick with a Torium 40 or Tekota 700 or 800. a 330 WILL WORK. (Tekotas are slow but I like the level wind due to the braid slicing your finger while guiding the braid)
65 to 85lb Power Pro Braid. I would highly suggest NO MONO!! Spool up atleast 300 yards.
Any fresh fish Bluefish,AJ, Bonita; my personal favorite is Brined Menhaden. Squid always works; Don't be affraid to put the whole thing on your hook. Circle hooks will improve your catch ratio. No need to set the hook in DEEP water.

60 lb braid, top shot of 6-8ft 40- 60 lb leader, 6.1 reel or higher gear,(2speed cause I'm fat and worn out) I am an Avet fan myself, I like the 5 -5.5 ft jigging rod , an Ugly stick works fine, I have a custom deep drop rod and a custom jigging rod, Why? Who knows

i just returned 4 bill fisher rods & saltist 50s for 2 penn glass 30-80 class rods & 2 tld 30 2 speeds. try bringing up a 1000 ft of p.p. on a saltist. you won't need a gym.

Oh come on Tony, its not that bad.

Here, its a Torium 30, 65# powerpro, no mono. It has 630yds, and is slam full. It will also hold 580yds or 80# power pro. I always load my reel incase I get broke off or have to cut it if I get tangled.

30# class ugly stick type blank.

Get a pair or those "Mechanincs Gloves" protect you from the cold as well as the braided line.

Squid(get the best lookingstuff you can find- but not the flounder/bleached out white stuff) groceries stores usually have good stuff.
Boston Macks, nice and firm... if its mushy or soft, dont waste your money
mullet
bluefish
false albacore

anyting tough and available will work

Daiwa 910 Rock Special on almost anything! 80 pound braid. I don't like using a rod with roller line guides with braid...

Rookies. Avet MXL 6/4, 65 lb power pro, a Trevala XXH rod and you are looking good. Heck, you don't even have to GO deep dropping, you will be looking so good, just owning that set-up. The bottom line is fashion. Not enough emphasis is placed on fashion these days, very important aspect of fishing. Go out, get skunked, and you still look good back at the dock, no matter what

Rob, you are fricken crazy! Stay that way! Any rod with a good taper6' saber blank stand up rod, shimano speed master, 50lb braind. Can use it for anything, works, and wont hurt the wallot. Wont look as good as ketchup, but will catch fish!:D
