I had a blast fishing in Lynnhaven this past fall. When does the action start? I;m guessing flounder are first?

Any info is appreciated - including all the secret spec spots!

Man I can't wait until it gets warm!!!!

First part of April should start things off w/Flounder. Do a search, I think it was "itsallgood" who did a GREAT post on early season Flounder fishing inside Lynnhaven. Those fish want to warm up... think SHALLOW sun warmed flats. The pups won't be far behind them, and may be there now.

The pups really shouldn't ever leave. Why is it in places like Charleston, SC and places in NC they have a phenominal winter puppy drum bite but not so much in Va? Has anyone ever searched around the barrier islands in the winter for schooling puppy drum?

Several years ago we were able to jump a couple of large sschools of Puppy Drum a good ways back inside of Lynnhaven... We were fishing from the Yaks and throwing cut mullet... Managed to land 3-4 that day, but they were very mobile and got 'spooky' after we pursued them for awhile... The interesting thing of note was that it was late march....

One of the biggest reasons there isn't a winter fishery in Lynnhaven comparable to SC/NC is water temps, and secondly food.

The ones that do over-winter in Lynnhaven and Rudee will warm themselves on the shallow, sun warmed flats. If you can find a muddy bottom, even better (one of the reasons the back-waters are more productive than the sand flats "out front").
