ACTIVITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AND FAMILIES
Our natural environment depends on clean water and healthy and productive fish and aquatic life habitat. The future of these resources will be in the hands of the next generation, which hopefully will be guided by responsible conservationists and anglers. If we do not expose, inform, and motivate our youth to protect the wonders of nature that mean so much to us, we are likely to see them diminished and eventually lost.
This show offers a variety of opportunities for youth and families to explore, experience, and learn to appreciate many facets of our natural environment, including:
· Free Show Admission for those 16 and under.
· “Fly Fishing 101” presentation by Dave Rothrock at 12:00p in the Fishing Forum on 2nd floor. Getting started in fly fishing is easier than you think.
· Noted author, artist, and activist, James Prosek, presents his latest children’s book Bird, Butterfly, Eel about the fascinating migration journeys of birds, insects, and fish in Destination Theater on 1st floor at 12:30p.
· Youth and adults invited to engage James Prosek in an informal conversation about sharing the wonders of nature, fishing, and friendship in Destination Theater 1st floor at 2:30p.
· Join Jim Greene and his crew at the Exhibit Hall booth of Trout Unlimited’s Trout in the Classroom program to find out how kids in regional schools learn about the life cycle of trout while hatching eggs into trout fry in classroom aquariums.
· At the Exhibit Hall booth of Green Kids, you’ll learn about this environmental education program and fishing club for kids 7-10 years old sponsored by the Audubon Naturalist Society and Montgomery County Public Schools.
· Visit the Exhibit Hall booth of Living Classroom's program to see how it gets kids involved with restoring American shad in the Potomac River, while they learn about the life cycle of these amazing fish.
· Meet noted children’s books authors, James Prosek and Sandy Burk at the "Meet the Authors" Exhibit Hall booth, where they will autograph and discuss their books.
· Free fly and spin casting instruction for kids offered in the Exhibit Hall at 10:30a, 11:30a, 1:30p, 2:30p, and 3:30p (loaner rods available).
