I just got a report that the ring perch are running hard up the narrows. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Don't know what the narrows are but heard of a few caught this weekend.

The narrows begin a few miles above Walkerton and run up to Aylett. It's where the river narrows dramatically and meanders back/forth. Anybody else heard any good reports?

Do you all launch at Aylet or Walkerton? What is the best way to fish for them?

Thanks

I LAUNCHED THE KAYAK AT AYLETT ON SUNDAY AND FISHED ALL THE WAY UP TO ZOAR PARK.CAUGHT A COUPLE SMALL ONES,BUT I WOULD'NT CALL IT A HARD RUN. I'LL PROBABLY GIVE IT A GO AGAIN THIS WEEKEND THOUGH ,YOU NEVER KNOW:yes:.

I have launched at walkerton but the river is shallow and unmarked up river. Sounds like a yak is the way to go...

Launched at Aylett Saturday morning and fished upstream for a couple of hours then moved down river about 4 miles past Aylett. Used minnows, spinners, jigs, etc. Basically tried everything but didn't have any luck. No reports of anyone catching anything above Walkerton but heard rumors of some being caught in that area. Be careful in the narrows! There were several inexperienced or just obnoxious boaters in larger vessels ripping around the narrow bends full steam ahead.

there always seems to be somebody in the narrows flying around the corners ,,,, i take a john boat in there all the time launching at aylett and there is always plenty of water for me .
i havent been this year yet but might give it a shot if its not freezing this weekend .

Actually, those who braved the bad weather were rewarded. I fished for five hours yesterday from Aylett and down about four miles. There were three other serious boats. One had been out over the weekend in the cold rain and hit 'em hard. But, it's over. Only one ring perch caught today by any of the boats I saw/spoke with and the small white male perch are beginning to show up. Some big crappie being caught in the trees though.
