Yesterday was very tough Trout fishing. I met Dr Ike at noon and we fished a couple places on the river. Caught one about 4 lbs and had three others come un hooked. Moved to another spot and caught one about 4 lbs. At 6:30 we had two fish. Moved to a channel ledge and at 7:30 we had put over 20 fish in the boat between 3.5 and a little over five pounds. All were caught on mirrolures and all but one that swallowed it to her gills were released. The fish wanted a very slow retrieve with very short sharp pops of the rod. We fished with 7 ft. 843 GL3 Loomis rods and fireline. The rod was the diffrence in the right action of the bait. For this kind of fishing you have to have a very rigid rod to give the bait a flick instead of a big movement. Best Trout fishing advice anyone ever gave me was do what you do best and never give up. Saw two others all day and they looked cold and discouraged. The fish are there if you know where to look.

up on Rainy Lake in MN who was the top man up there (he was pulling in 100 fish days while others were almost getting skunked)...he said just what Brian was saying...fish can not resist a twitching bait (most times)...the other point he made was that a vertical twitch was even more deadly, I have found this to be true because some days when I catch fish, they all seem to be closer to the boat (when my lure would be going vertical)...just a few thoughts...

Dave,
Glad you posted yesterday's fishing and catching. We worked hard for those fish with constant light rain all day but in the end it was worth it. When they turned on it was one after another, even one striper. All released but that one 5lb speck. That was more keeper size specks than I ever caught before. We were looking for that big one for me. Really enjoyed the day despite the weather. I'm a die hard fisherman as you know now. But I learned a bunch from you about fishing with Mirrolures. Thanks, I'll get that big one next time.
