My 5 years is up on my EPIRB in June and need some help finding someone in the Va. Beach, Richmond area that can do the job. I assume it is a battery replacement. Any info will be appreciated.

I AM NOT AN EXPERT SO TRIPLE CHECK ME...but...according to this CG website, Emergency Position Indicating Radiobeacon (EPIRB) - USCG Navigation Center
QUOTE: 121.5/243 MHz EPIRBs
The International Cospas-Sarsat System ceased satellite processing of 121.5/243 MHz beacons on 1 February 2009. Although Emergency Locator Transmitters used by aircraft may still be used, alerts from these devices or from 121.5/243 MHz EPIRBs will no longer be acted upon unless detected by an overflying aircraft. Jack, you are right but I believe mine transmits on bot 406 and 121. Hell, I am dumb as a rock when it comes to these things. I guess I will find out when I take it in. Called the people at USA and told them that I will have down next week. Great people to talk to on phone.

Thanks Mackey, Got it.

The 406 epirbs all also transmit 121.5. They use the 121.5 to DR your position once airborn and searching for you, the 406 is what sets them in action and gives them your general location.
