Greetings...
I was looking @ Building a Crabpot (http://www.bluecrab.info/crabpot/index.html) and I noticed building a crabpot is quite easy. I would prefer the square vinyl mesh to the twisted wire mesh however. Does anyone know where I could get a just enough square vinyl mesh to build 2 pots? Anyone have 40' rolls of the stuff? Thanks.

Personally I never thought the vinyl coated caught as well.
Miller's Crab Pot Supply in Edgemere might have what you need.

If I had your money, I would just go out and buy one or two.. That way we have more time drinking...;-);-)

Vinyl promotes growth of alge and such quickly. So I find them to get heavy after a while. Good Luck

Maybe I'm slow or something, but I built about 10 a few years back and it took me about 3 to 4 hours a piece. It was not worth it to me.

vinyal slows the growth on a crab pot and protects it from deteriating. but the vinyal pots do not catch quite as well

Go buy them, $25 a pop at most places...The time it takes to build them isn't worth it. I built 4 last year and I used some parts from pots that were damaged and it still took me close to 3 hours per....Just not worth the effort.

Good advice given above!!!
Tom, if you were doing a production run of 10 or more it might be worth the time and effort. NOT for 2 pots.
Talk to Jeff at Carroll Island Hardware. He deals!

Pole does he make'em with re-bar and ready to drop or do you have to attach lines and floats?

I don't know. He buys them already made and sells them and other stuff. I haven't been there for almost a year, but he's been selling them at reasonable prices for many years.

if the wire is cut and bent, I can assemble one in about 35 minutes. Once you figure out an efficient method of cutting and bending the wire, that shouldn't take more than 30 minutes so yer looking at a little over an hour. I don't see how anyone can make a living building them though. There is something to be said for catching a fish or crab in or with something you built or tied though

Agreed I do make my own topless traps and I never get tired of pointing out that fact to anyone who will listen. Pulling up a home made trap with a huge Jim in it always gives me a warm fuzzy feeling!

Made 10 a while back.
I did it simply for the satisfaction of doing it myself.
It wasn't to bad in my opinion, but it was sure tougher then just buying them.
Heck just bending and tacking the rebar together took quite a few beers!
This place has everything you could ever need.

Boaters world is going out of business and the entire store is 10-30% off. They sell them normally for $25, so you might be able to get them for $20. The store in White Marsh had 3 left yesterday.

Thanks Guys. I did buy a few from BW at 10% off, but I still think I would like to build a few just as a personal accomplishment. Maybe I'll do the style at Bluecrab.org and do a catch comparison.
Thanks for all the input gentlemen!
