Interesting day. Morning was warm clear blue skys and then around noon the wind picked up and got cloudy and spit rain. Fish didn't seem to mind. Caught five over 30 pounds. Biggest was 52. Hickory Shad are here. I believe shad roe is on the menu at my house tonight. All fish caught at Dutch Gap

Pretty work. Hickory roe is not as good as American roe, but obviously better than herring roe. Did you catch those shad near a discharge? I've caught them near the power plant outflow in the past.

Hey Martineta, NICE report!:bigfish:
I tried to get the hickories but got the gizzard shad first. Thanks for the bait help! FISH PIMP gave me the same bait help you did! I now have confidence in my bait getting capabilities but I need work on my BIG FISH catching. I guess that comes with persistence!
Thanks for your help and your report!

What type of terminal tackle do you use? Do you use a fishfinder rig? Circle hooks? A lot of weight or just enough to stay on the bottom?

I use 8/0 Gamagatzu circle hooks and 6 or 8 or 10 or 14 oz of weight depending on the current. 18-24 inches 80 pound test leader on 40 lb main line. Sliding sinker on the main line behind a bead and swivel

Thanks!
Sounds about what I have been using. My leader might be a little too light (50 lb test) but so far I haven't needed much more than 10 lb test!:D
Thanks again for sharing!

Really appreciate your posts. Glad you're finding the fish!
I'm one of those sissy fair-weather fishermen, but I'll hope to join you once it warms up and stops raining for more than a couple of hours.
Thanks a million for the rigging info, too.
