View Full Version : beer to go with crabs

Maybe this has been discussed before but I think most will agree that eating steamed crabs in the summer is a beer occasion. There's nothing like sitting on the back deck with a mound of old bay covered, bright orange, steamed crabs and a cooler of your favorite beer. I like corona, landshark, narragansett and national bohemian with my crabs, let's hear your favorite to go with crab.

I agree with the cold part. Only beer i've ever tried that I didn't care for was a wheat beer. From Busch to the finest imported pilsner- they're kinda like sex, some might be better than others, but they're all good! Or something like that. :pp

But yea, no way am I sitting down to a nice pile of fresh, hot steamed jimmies after a long day of crabbing, without a cooler full of iced down chillies within easy reach.:yes::beergood::hammer::chugbeer:

I know it's starting to get to me too. There aren't too many beers I don't like. I don't like anything too heavy or too hoppy with crab I think it would kill some of the crab flavor

Nothing says Baltimore like a pile a steamed crabs and cooler full of ice cold Natty Boh...all while listening to the O's game!

And for dessert...a box of Berger cookies.

I like beer for sure, as I would easily have an extra $100,000 in the bank if I could back every dollar I ever spent on a beer...

This being said, last summer I started to drink Dark and Stormies with my crabs and it was awsome. For those who do not know, a D&S is Gosling's Rum mixed with Barrett's Ginger Beer, both of which are native to Bermuda. These can be had at most upper end liquor stores.

But I'll only use the Natty Boh (Old One Eye) as part of the steaming agent
Not For Consumption :D

Ah come on Dale,

I remember Dad buying those huge long neck cases of NB from Stammers in Pasadena for crab feasts at the grandparents shore all summer long. The cases were so well made out of heavy cardboard that they would last forever as foot rests and foot stools. Of course there was a deposit on the case of bottles, I think.

I liked it at 8,9,10,11,12,.............................49+. I left plenty of crumb backwash in my Dads beers. He didnt seem to mind.

What did you drink back when Dale???

Davey Boy,
I to drank the One Eye through my adolescence along with Gunther, Hams, Carlings Black Label,Shultz, Paps Blue Ribbon and all the other $1.05 a 6 pack Plus Tax Beer cause I couldn't rub 2 nichels together. Remember when $2.50 an hour had you poing in tall clover and I was making $.90 an hour. Or a short Beer At the Bar was $.15, Now I'm showing my age.
Now days it’s Premium Beer for me. Michelob is my choice and It don't go in with the CRABS!

I crab while I drink beer, I steam them in beer, I steam them while I drink beer, and I eat them while I drink beer.....

Nicely stated....my sentiments exactly.

Eatin' crabs is an endurance sport...that said, I gotta go with the light stuff...ice cold CL smooth and lots of it.

Then afterwords, drink the good stuff (I like hoppy beers): Anchor Steam, RedHook ESB, and DogFish 90 minute are a few of my favorites.

My neighbor gave me a 12 pack from a mini brew in Frederick. It was Flying Dog or Running Dog, Mad Dog, something like that. Wheat beer! I had a bout of the running shtxxxs for 3 days, terrible stuff. Alcohol content was up around 11% though. Never again.

Nope, not Red Dog but Flying Dog Brewery - American Ale Craft Beer Brand Store Online (http://www.flyingdogales.com) 3-4 bottles of the white wheat, your gastro trac is on fire. You'll need a bucket of ice cubes next to the crapper.

Not sure what a Natty BOA is, but I drink one other beer if its not budlight, and its natural light.

They taste the same to me, just cost a little different...

The crabs actual prefer Natural light to be cooked in, they told me that once..... But it was a long day out on the water.....:D
