First of all I realize that I am a Newbie so given that here is my question. I have built a couple rods with the butt wrap a diamond pattern. I have two coats of epoxy finish on the wrap and I must agree that the epoxy is not too thick. I can run my hand over the wrap and I can feel the pattern. Should the finish epoxy be so thick that you surface over the wrap be smooth so that you cannot feel the pattern underneath?
Thanks

Bill,
It will be difficult for a newer wrapper and finisher to get the finish to be 100% level. The reason for this is that you have put a uniform thickness over the entire wrap. So, any bumps that are in the wrap (The diamond wrap over either underwrap or bare blank) causes a change in "elevation" making the finish bump higher. What you do now is apply another coat of finish over the first one and it should level out. Its OK to put it on a little thicker at this point, but not so thick that it globs up and sags off the rod.
Does this make sense?

Thanks Kevin; It makes sense and I will give it a try tomorrow.
Thanks for your response.
