Departed my house in Poquoson on the grady at 0645. Fished the mouth of York,
York Spit Light and in between Back River Reef and Factory Point. Birds were thick
but skittish. The bait was there but very scattered. No real fish marks. Water was
flat and glassy and boat ran great but fish did not cooperate, was hopeing for some
C & R close to home before he leaves tomorrow. He was thrilled because he had
never seen hundreds of gannets slamming the water as they were. Back at home
at 1100.

Great pics Brian, better to be on the water than working (which im doing). In the last couple of weeks there have been some nice fish caught at the mouth of the York, up to the Coleman.

How did if feel fishing on a real "boat"? :D

Brian- I fished those same groups of birds in the same area in the afternoon- trolled around what looked to be the perfect snenario with no bites for the first several hours- Did mark fish in 18-20ft of water but hard to keep the grass off the baits- Finally about 4pm it went off and we had a double, a quad and several singles of 25-32lb fish- Great C&R for about an hour or so- Did hear of a good bit across the Bay from where we fished of some nice 50lb class fish- May try that this week- EVERYONE PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ALL DOCUMENTATION FOR YOUR BOAT AND LICENSES ARE CURRENT AND YOU DOUBLE CHECK YOUR SAFETY GEAR AS THE MAN WAS OUT YESTERDAY (vA mARINE pATROL) tHEY MUST HAVE BEEN BORED AS THEY HAD 2 BOATS OUTS AND I WAS APPROACHED BY BOTH- gREAT DAY ON THE WATER AND THE FISHING IS ONLY GOING TO GET BETTER

Brian- I had the same lack of fish problem fishing that area on Thursday. I see that some fish were being caught on the south shore of the York closer to the Coleman bridge.

Saw you cruise through at the reef today. Was on the Key West. Managed to catch 1 tog - it was 21", had a few bites but pretty slow. Saw the gannets in the distance - pretty awesome sight.

Capt. mitch, Nice meeting you as well. It was a great crew.
Just Kiddin, Glad you caught some. I was debating going that way.
]Christo[/B],I heard the same after I got back. Maybe next time.
One More Cast, I will be toggin tomorrow. One is better than none.
]Scotsman[/B], Feels good putting the hammer down on a calm day. Until
I look and see I burned 30 gals for a short trip! Oh well.

It was nice out there today. Took the small boat out. Thanks for the picture of us! We caught a couple togs, nothing big, but dinner will be good!

Love the pics - neat to see the stunned bunker. Bet that one didn't escape
the birds. Gotta like that glassy sea.

I put in my 3000 baby oysters yesterday. Looking forward to
watching them grow.

Nice pics and report!

The amount of gannets out there has been unreal the last few trips out. I drop lines when I see bait on the screen, but haven't hooked up with anything yet. Helpful to see the size of the bait they're after laying on the surface.:D

Thanks!

The york river in spring is a haven for the coasties. They become a real pain in the ass, I felt hurrassed about the sixth time I got pulled over last year heading for the reef. They do a great service for our country, but when they pull us over again and again, it is nothing but govenment strong arming the little guy. 911 happened and vigilance is good but protect our coast and leave me and my family alone.

i fish the mouth or wormly creek for redfish, trout and rock and they drive by me no problem thats the docking station for them. they run drills everyday, i know eventually they will pull me.
