This morning we loaded the Skeeter down to capacity as Alex, Randy, Craig, and I headed down to the Potomac for some pre-spawn bass action. We launched and stayed within the confines of Mattawoman Creek, catching a total of 13 largemouth on what was overall a pretty slow bite. Alex had the big fish of the day, a 3 pounder, while Craig had the hot hand of the day, with 7 fish. Most fish were caught on small Rat-L-Trap style baits.

That's what I need to learn!
One day last week I left work a little early and tried some local ponds. The LM and Pickerel started rising to the surface just as the sun set, but the fish actually made detours to swim around my lures (lizard, Berkley gulp stick-bait and 4" swimming assassin). That was embarrassing.

Nice report!! Do you ever fish Nanjemoy Creek? I'm getting together with a bunch of old high school buddies from Southern Maryland to do a canoe fishing trip in either Mattawoman Creek or Nanjemoy Creek. Probably going at the end of April and gonna launch at Slavins on the Mattawoman or Friendship Landing on Nanjemoy Creek. Any suggestions?

Never fished Nanjemoy, but have certainly heard about it. Mattawoman is a big creek...probably on par with size of the Severn River from Cedar Pt. on up. We're still trying to figure it out. If you're up in the 6 mph zone, the best tip I've heard is that the fish can be either right up against the pads, on the drop, or right in the channel. Those guys seem to throw a bunch of Senkos in the weeds all summer.
Doug and I got out Wednesday afternoon and caught 25 fish.
