I took a ride Sunday just for grins and found 57 deg water back in the back. It will not be long!
I tossed a gulp a half dozen times just for kicks and got no bites.

I can't wait!

"they never left of course" - of course Jamie... I guess all those little pups just ran south to drop off tags then came back for the winter?

There are SOME fish that'll over-winter in Rudee and Lynnhaven, and are usually caught in the sun-warmed creeks/flats during the winter. Look for flats, preferrably a dark muddy, or leaf covered bottom (holds heat better than a sandy/shelly bottom). Look on the sunny side of creeks, not the shadowed side. SLOOOOOW presentation, or cut bait.

Just my data from last year AL.... 256 pups tagged in Lynnhaven, only 2 recaps so far. One recaught in Jan. one recaught in Feb. both were recaught in Lynnhaven. First year I have not had any recaught in NC.

Funny, I don't get many pup recaptures IN Lynnhaven... mostly from NC.

Al, those fish took one look at your mug as you stuckem and hauled tail as far south as they could get :))
but on a good note i did manage a baby pup up my way last week. wasn't much, but would almost fit on a biscuit!

i went out on a 75+ deg day a month or more ago and at the ramp in a foot of water on a mud flat i saw some fish chasing bait fish. the water was decently warm due to the depth. it was in wormly creek in the york. do you think it was pups? only a mile away is the hot discharge we fish in yorktown where the pups are there all year. i tried to cast at them but the wind had me all up in the shore and i didnt have my trolling motor theen.
