Yeah mon!

So after a couple placid days lounging around the resort, I decided there had to be some kind of adventure to be found. I booked an off the books "charter" through one of the guys that organizes the watersports on the resort. So up rolls this local boat at 0730. Shit you not its a glorified canoe....about 4' wide and about 25' long, powered by maybe a 30 or 40 HP outboard with two scruffy locals at the helm. Yeah, and just me. My spidey sense tingled, wondering if maybe I had stumbled upon a bad idea....screw common sense, where's the adventure in that?

So out we go past the reef in this "boat". About 2 miles out, not real far, but its rollin. 4' to 6' slightly confused tight ocean swell. Its rockin and rollin, and this long skinny "boat" is slamming down off every tall one. I still feel like I went a few rounds with Tyson today.

Lines go out, hour or so of trolling. Bam, line goes down off one of the "outriggers"

Estimated 25 pound Mahi mahi. Certainly my largest ever. I know I make it look like a hoss, but I'm only 5'3".

About 30 minutes later, fish number two comes over the side.

I made it about 3 1/2 hours, and was getting queasy. I asked to be taken back to the resort, rather than throw up on my host, Eddie. All in all it was wild and fun, and alot cheaper than a typical charter.

My ass still hurts and my right kidney feels like I got kicked by a mule.

Where can I get a set of these outriggers?

Vacation's over, we're home

It was quite the wild ride. I surely won't be complaining about the 2-3' summer bay slop anytime soon....

I would have gone for it too. Just wondering, how much did that exclusive charter set you back.

I am leaving for jamaica on monday the 6th. Where were you in Jamaica, we are going to the South side of the island on the sandals Whitehouse resort. We were thinking about going fishing, but I don't think she will do it on that. What did you think about jamaica, we are headed down for our honeymoon.

$200. Was suppossed to be out longer but I was getting a little green and asked to head in. We saw at least one more feeding Mahi, and had a couple knockdowns that didn't connect.

cbh, we were at the Montego bay resort. Ask around you might be able to find something similar. Jamaica was okay. We never left the resort, though, only there for 4 nights, so we just relaxed most of the time. I really dig the all inclusive format, not having to deal with tips and whatnot. You'll need a few bucks to tip the baggage people at the airport, though, and maybe the driver and his baggage guy, they don't work for Sandals.
