Made my first flyrod trip of the year. Went out on the Cacapon River (in West Va) First some rapids and deeper waters with the usual black weighted wooly bugger.
No smallies but a bunch of fallfish up to 12+ inches. A couple were as big as I'd ever caught. About halfway thru the afternoon in a deeper strecth of water I saw a fish rise behind the kayak. I casted and soon hooked about a 16inch golden trout. :D:DMy first ever in any kind of fishing. Never seen them in that stretch of river but I guess they are there. Hope to get out again soon. I know some have done well on smallies on the warmer days which today was not. Should be biting soon prior to the spawn next month. When they spawn the rockfish are usually biting so it works out.
