Dear Saltwater Angler,

We are sure that all are waiting with much anticipation the Bill number for our game fish designation. The Senate amended their schedule to extend their deadline of bill introduction to today. After several “strategy” sessions with our sponsors in both the Senate and the House, at their recommendations and with our agreement, we have decided not to introduce the bill into the Senate, but rather introduce it into the House alone.

There are several sound reasons for this strategy. First, the House has more time for us to get this out into the public forum which will allow us more time to build the fires in the media to build momentum going into the Senate side. There are only 50 Senators, and most are aware of this coming bill. We felt it would be better to let them see the public and media sentiment grow before it actually arrived in the Senate. Politicians often change their minds as the public becomes more aware and boisterous when an issue strikes a nerve like this one will! The Senate will be closely watching!

This will give all of us more focus too on one group of legislators right now instead of trying to sway the entire group. Let the Senators sit quietly by and watch this thing build momentum. When it gets to the Senate floor, we can direct all our efforts to that group of legislators then! Hopefully by then, we will have substantial national attention as well as statewide.

So now we will proceed with the support of our Representatives in the House. We relied heavily on this decision between our Sponsors in both houses, and Dick Hamilton, who has been through this process with many of these same folks for many years. We do have our bill in hand, and we are sharpening the points on it right now. Hopefully we will have a bill number within the next day or so. Trust me, no one wants to see that number anymore than we do! Be patient, it’s on the way!

We have created a new blog-site that we will be able to link from our current one that is totally devoted to this issue alone. As the Representatives sign on as supporters of the bill, their photographs will appear under a heading “Friends of the Saltwater Angler”. Joe Albea has all his media connections ready to roll, and we have been contacted by 2 nationally known and published magazines that are waiting for this bill number also. We have been contacted by them by email and direct phone conversations, and they plan to weigh in heavily on our behalf when this thing cranks up. We have several television stations that are waiting for our call. We will be emailing you a “Wanted” poster that you can print and distribute!

We have a blog post created that has an alphabetical county by county list of all the legislators and their email “link” right beside their name that will be posted on the blog site immediately when we have the bill number. Anyone in the state can scroll down to his or her county, and see all their legislators right there and have their email addresses for point and click! We will also have the phone number and email address for the Governor, and the Speaker of the House available.

We are sitting on “Go”! Stay tuned!

Thanks for your time

Tilford, I think I know what this is about but you really need to clarify what you are talking about. I think you've just confused alot of people. Especially on the VA board. If you're going to be a public representative for this group you need to do alot better than this. Hope you dont take offense, but that was really vague.

Next week we will have a House Bill number. That bill if passed, will make the Spotted Sea Trout and the Red Drum “Game Fish”.

Have you thought about what that will really do for you as a saltwater recreational angler? How about your children and your grandchildren? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to go to your favorite Trout or Drum spot and not have to worry about nets and the strike netters?

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to find large schools of Red Drum and Speckled Trout both inshore and on our beaches? All these fish need is some protection and the opportunity to grow old!

Now here is what each of us needs to think about this weekend. Next week the battle will begin in earnest. What will you do?

How many of us did not send a “thank you letter” email to our sponsors because we thought someone else would do it or we just didn’t have time?

How many of us have watched for years the problems in our coastal fisheries and always hoped someone would do something someday? Why not us, why not now?

How many of us, or anybody for that matter, thought that a group of fishermen would organize and get a bill like this introduced into the NC House of Representatives?

How many of us are willing to finally stand up to show the politicians that we are a united force and we refuse to be ignored any longer?

Life is too short to spend time on worthless causes and we have to choose our battles wisely.

This is one battle that is worth the fight!

I really hoped that you would'nt take offense. You just left out so much info that it seemed prudent to let you know that your message was not getting across. The Va guys were playing a guessing game about what you were talking about and none of them came close. I knew what this was about but thought that I'd give you a chance to clarify since you are so passionate about it. Your group seems to want input and criticism from anyone that will give it on the rec and commercial side of this issue so it only seems natural that you would be open to it as well. That was a very harsh reaction to very lite criticism. Nobody needs to hold our hand and this hasnt turned into anything ugly. Was really trying to help but i guess you dont want it so i wont. Get some coffee man jeez!

I too was lost, thanks for the second post it made things a lot clearer. I was not aware of this bill, so I did not know what I would be fighting for/against or say I was for/against it in reply to the e-mail address. I understand you are the messenger, it takes someone that gets a little information out by any ways possible to get the point across, and for that THANKS ALOT.

We have our “Coastal Game Fish Act” and the bill # is H918! See it at this link!.. H918 [Filed] (http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/Sessions/2009/Bills/House/HTML/H918v0.html)

Please visit the blog site and there you will find a county by county alphabetical list with your Representatives and Senators listed for each county along with an email “link” right beside their names. Please concentrate on the Representatives right now as this bill must make it through the house first. Your legislators phone number can be found at the NC Legislature website at North Carolina General Assembly - Home Page (http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/)

Please go to work. It is critical that we create momentum immediately! Remember to get your family, friends, and everyone that you know involved! No time to celebrate now, the work is just now starting. Please see the attached “Wanted” poster. You can print this out by looking for the “print “ function on the left. Print em up, and hand em out!!
