I have a 17ft. jon boat with a 50 h.p. yamaha and it will run about 30 mph. with me and my wife in the boat. I was wondering how long it would take and how many miles roughly it is from dutch gap up to richmond where the shad are being caught. I would just go to anncarrows but my wife is a begginer at backing up a trailer and driving a boat and at anncarrows you have to have 2 peolpe and it helps when both of you can one or the other. So anyone that can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

Shouldn't take more than 15 minutes.

It's about 12.5 miles from The Gap to the 95 bridge. I would give it a good 20 minutes at 30 mph.

Good Luck and please post your results:thumbup:

I've been to anncarrows a couple times on the weekend during this time of year and Ill tell you its alot better to have a person to go get the truck while you putt the boat around because nine times out of ten you cant tie up because theres no room and at high tide the exit ramp is under the water. Its a absolute mad house. Thats why I said its better to have not two people but someone else to be able to help you by getting the truck or keeping the boat close to the ramp while you go get the truck.

You got that right.... there's a bunch of dummies out there that jump in front of you and makes loading and unloading a lot of trouble. It makes you want to have open season on dummies and legalize torpedos.

srman - ignore jamie. you got the right idea running up from dutch gap. think how pleasant those 15 minutes riding up on plane along the river will be compared to waiting in line to take out at the nutso ancarrows ramp. the travel time will equal the wait time at the ramp so enjoy the wind in your face.

ok i guess i got lucky......we were the only boat launching and only had maybe maybe 6 trucks/trailors in the parking lot.......then when we came back there was no one there at all.......i drove my boat right up on the ramp and "beached it"......walked 1/2 way up the ramp, stopped and drained the lizard, picked some flowers and chattted with a squirrel.....got the truck and back down the ramp beside the boat.....loaded it and was on our way with out ever seeing another boat truck or trailor........ITS ALWAYS EASYER W/ 2 PEOPLE NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO

HAVE FUN AT DUTCH GAP.....

OK either ramp will do,,, but you lose a half hour of fishing so you can run back downriver on plane while you can still see,
