Fished with a great group of folks on Trax's ride on Sunday. FINS Dave, Doug, Tom and Lane and Trax's friend Brian (poor guy stayed out to late Sat night and was hurting all day).
Had a nice run down to the 800 line in 200f out of Rudee. Put the lines in and got to work. Were hoping for some quick action but we did not get any bites even though the conditions looked great. We trolled around and after about an hour and a half and with no bites and no real great marks (we did have birds and porpoises in the area though) we get a double hook up on the long rigger and planer. Broke the planer fish off at the boat (not sure why...with heavy leader and all) but we ended up boating and keeping the long rigger fish which was a 115 pounder for Tom. His first bigger class Tuna and he was pumped.
Back to work and again a lull and almost the same scenario and hour later...long rigger and planer go down. The long rigger fish pulls after the initial run but we strap Lane to the Planer rod and she gets to work. She did a great job and we released a nice 120 pound class fish (her first Tuna!). She was pumped. Same drill...followed the signs and change as it was moving a bit north and again, planer and long rigger down. FINS has the long rigger rod and battles it for a good while and it breaks off. I believe it was cut off by a passing boat we had called over on the bite. Tough break but it was stretched out father than we could tell I guess. I had the planer fish and fought it to the boat for a release...another 120 pound class fish. Some time later we get a screamer bite on the planer and our "sick man" Brian wrestles another nice 120 pounder to the boat for the release. Seas flattened out nice and we had a nice ride home. Great time with a great crew...Blue/White and Blue/Black worked with Select to Large Ballys.
