A non-fishing friend lives at Bennett's Creek and wants me to go over and show him how to fish. I don't know the creek. Can anyone tell me what is available there now? Flounder? Trout? Croaker? I'd appreciate any intelligence? Thanks.

Bennett's Creek has a small boat ramp right beside the restaurant (good food) and is a short ride to the james river... Croaker and small flounder are being caught in the james right now with trout probably harder to locate but also a possibility... Once you leave Benette's creek you are a short ride to the M&M or JRB...

I live on Knotts Creek next creek over.
gchesh - croaker watch the channel at the mouth narrow shallow on both sides.
BUDC - Not sure about the resturant but for the last five times I rode past the marina there are no boats docked in any of the slips.

Leave the food alone there unless it's changed cooks, the last few times I went there, it sucked, but as for the fishing, leave the creek and hang a left and go up the Nansemond, find the oyster beds near the channel edge and catch big croakers, look for the feeder channels leading into the river, especially in the bends, take shrimp, squid, fishbite bw, have fun

The restaurant is under new management now from what i've been told... They will be doing live music again on weekends (Friday i know) but there were some permit issues that forced them to tear down much of the new outdoor construction... I've always like that spot and have never had bad food...

Fishing in Bennetts creek is still pretty slow. Another couple of weeks and it should start to turn on.
I have fished it for quite some time now and we catch spots, croaker, small stripers, puppy drum and a few other things now and then.
The rest is back, opened by the old owners/ operators " ex " wife and she has really gone above and beyond to fix the place back up ( it had become quite a dump) . Good food and a nice place on the weekends when they have the music as stated above.

I live off the creek a little now, but you can catch a nice mess of croakers and pups off of most of the docks on the creek.

Well, the majority is good report. I believe one way to judge an place is by their 'Burger and Beer.
A good, thick, juicy burger served hot with a really cold beer in a cold mug/glass reveals they care about quality and customer satisfaction. Ya can't spend a fortune either, so I'll make the trip soon and find out.
Thanks,

You know you should be able to go out and find some togs at the middle ground reef which is a doughnut around the lighthouse. It is the only artificial reef in VA that is actually loaded completely with material.

If my memory is correct there is another ramp a little further up the creek off of shoulders hill road, there used to be a park back there with a decent ramp/dock area.

White perch under the treeS and the bends of the creek where oyster shell bottoms are......use grass shrimp and peeler....
The docks are getting pulled up as vmrc said that nat (the owner before the divorsee) took over the restraunt didn't apply for the permit....they will allow some rebuilding but the food is back to normal....good
try the bends in the creeks on the falling tide......good luck
the bridge there is a good spot to try as well...caught a ton of perch there....just not lately my boat has been down....
My dad lives up the creek a bit and catches them off his pier....

I never had a whole lot of use for that guy. He'd bust your azz every chance he got. I went in there about a month ago to listen to a friend of mine play with his band in there. I didn't eat, but I didn't see anything bad about it. Beer tasted good!!
