Want to put a trolling motor on skiff. Does anyone have a bow mounted motor on their skiff and if so what shaft length and thrust?

you want the bottom of the motor to be 20" below the water. mine is 18 and i have a quick disconect, and that raised it 1 1/2" and i wish it was 4 inch lower than it is.
Google "Carolina Skiff Owners" . Pretty good forum - sure someone over there has the answer

I have a DLX 19 with a 72# 24V 54" and sometimes wish I had more. Mine has auto and co pilot and think its the best boat money I ever spent. I can fish anywhere in the boat and control the troll motor. it will also hold a heading.
The J sits a little lower so you may be able to go shorter. if its tiller steer you want to go long as possible.
There are lots of folks with your boat at the CS site that can give you more detailed info for your boat. Great folks
Good luck

dido to that. i have a min kota co-pilot i installed in march and have fished it 4 times so far. i have the remotes monted on my rods. i switch rods and baits i just pop out the remote pop back onto the new rod.. last nite i just held position and threw at a light for a hour awsome...... i honestly have thought that its the best money i have spent so far on my boat or fishing supplies. the tiller styles are only about $150 or so cheaper ... if i didnt buy a remote controll device i would have felt guilty for my expensive purchase, but the co pilot no way.... 24v on a 20 ft center console t-top boat and getting 5-6 hours off usage on very windy days..

I think I want to go with the Minn Kota 12 volt with 55 lbs of trust and the remote but just need to figure out the shaft length. If anyone has one on a CS J16 let me what shaft length is best
I have the Minn Kota 55# Riptide copilot on on my 16DLX and it is perfect. 12Volt-single battery provides plenty of thrust for getting around. A 12 V batt gives me nearly a day on the water at low to moderate speeds. That model has plenty of length for the 16' boat.
