I have a DF70 Suzuki Outboard.... I'm looking and ordering parts right now and see an 'oil change pump'. Is this somethign that is necessary or just a luxury?

Does anybody know of any tools out of the norm that I will need for doing basic service on this engine?

Thanks

the oil change pump is not nessary for the oil change just remove the starboard lower cowling... and that will reveal the drain plug.... MAKE SURE YOU REPLACE THE SEAL WASHER OR IT WILL LEAK... easier to change oil filter with cowling out of your way also....

Thanks... I haven't received the manual in yet so I'm looking at the diagram online.... Suzuki DF 70 (1998-2008) Fig. 23 - Oil Pump (http://store.brownspoint.com/df70/fig023-709807.asp)
Which part is the "seal washer" that you noted in the previous post. I want to make sure and get a few ordered if it needs to be replaced.... Or do you think it comes with the oil filter I ordered?

no the seal washer does not go with the filter.... there is a seal washer around the drain plug and once it is tightned down on and "squeezed" between the plug head and engine block when you remove the previous one you cant reuse it or it will not reseal... my buddy bought a seafox with a suzuki rigged from the dealer and the first time we changed oil in it ( on a sun.) he remembered that he forgot to get that d**n washer when he got the oil and filter.... he dug through the boat to find the owners manual and guess what.... a bag of 15-20 seal washers in the sink in the cabin.... they look like normal metal washers but are "squeezable" your local suzuki dealer will have them..

Zuke recomends a new drain plug gasket (refered to as "seal washer")with every oil change. I doubt that many people are changing the gasket with every oil change.

Thanks all for the advice.... Thanks rj for the name. It looks like part #11 on that diagram. Easy enough to add to my next order. At a buck and thirteen cents, sounds to me like it can't hurt to have a few on hand and change it...

Supplies delivered tomorow and I'm sure I'll have more questions!

sorry for the improper name for the drain plug gasket.. replied to the post according to memory... once you perform the task the first time you will be a pro at it.... just dont do what we did... be sure not to accidently disconnect the "piss" hole hose when removing the oil filter and wonder why it wont pee anymore then discover the cowling is full on the inside.... DUHH!!!! trust me the oil change is easy after the first time
