so, as soon as they are out I'm getting the Radar for my HDS unit, and I was wondering if it is tough for a non tech guy to do? I understand they are plug and play? am I way off? Do I just need to put it on a pedestal and run the wire to the unit or is there more to it than that?
Sorry, just not a tech guy?
if not, how much do you think it would be to install something like that?

This was a topic a few months ago

I have installed two so far, just follow the directions and use common sense. A "pro" install would be between
$500 and $1000.
(I ordered an hds8 today)

I installed my own radar system.......about 5 times!!! It is very straightforward, if you follow all the instructions. My problem was that I had a bad unit (computer, not the antenna) and it took 17 months (!) of back-and-forth crap with the manufacturer until they sent me a unit that works. Now, mine works fine, but I'd probably never do it again because of this.
Just think, if you buy a brand new system and install it exactly right and then it DOES NOT work, what are you going to do? You've already drilled holes, caulked it, and cut the wiring. Get an extended warranty.
One other thing. The systems are constantly being upgraded, so keep an eye out for software updates and hardware (eg, wiring harnesses) upgrades. There was nothing like installing my own system that came in this huge box and finding a tiny little SD card thrown in that same big radar antenna box. The SD card was intended as an upgrade but it actually had a software revision that was OLDER than the software revision preloaded in my system.
