View Full Version : Status of The Spawn?

I'm up here in New England and trying to get an idea of whether not the striper spawn has started this week. Have fish been moving into the creeks to spawn, or are they still in their staging areas? I was thinking with the warm weather this may be the week, but I'd appreciate any reports and/or insight. It seems once the spawn goes off, they don't waste much time getting up here and our water temps are climbing into their comfort range. Thanks for the help. Maybe we could keep this as a running report type thing.

First couple of weeks in may is usually when things get really good in CT. Check around and ask about the sandworm hatch. Big fish on light tackle in skinny water. The hatch doesn't last long but it can get you some big fish. Also check around and ask about trolling the tube and worm. Caught a ton last year on it!

Check with Harry Koons at the Nauset Angler via computer site of same name. He operates in Orleans shop and usually has a handle on the striper activity in the area. Several local fishermen hang out at the shop.

The fish are moving out of the Hudson river and other places . They are moving ALONG the beaches now. SKIMMER baits are the way to go.
