I have been researching the purchase of 6 stand up rods with large wind on guides to match up with my 50 TLDs strung with 80lb Momoi. I want wind ons for Hatteras the next 2months. I've spoken with everyone from Captain Harry's to Melton to local guys. Melton is eager to sell me their Kona Rods.
Any recommendations?

Dennis Braid has some stand up rods designed to take wind on leaders for big yellowfin and bluefin tuna. I would also check out Calstar from west coast dealers. The are the favorite rod and blank for stand up monster yellowfin tuna fishing on the long range fleet out of San Diego.

Look into the Seeker Line of Rods. They are nearly indestructable.

Jim,
I fished 2 days this past weekend out of Ocean City, Blue-fining on Saturday and Yellow-fining on Sunday, we were successful with both species. We fished 6 “Star” rods 50-80 # class rods, we ran 4-Tiagra 50’s and 2-Tiagra 80’s. The rods are the new “Plasma Series” with the high Fuji roller guides, all rigged with wind on’s and they did not miss a beat. The rods are a little soft at the tip, I prefer this, I think this results in fewer pulled hooks, The rods are pricy but do have a lifetime warranty. I own two other older Star rods and recently sent one back for a guide replacement and it was no questions asked. Just had to pay for shipping to them. Looks better then new. Good luck.
