Does anyone want to head out to Centenial Lake tomorrow (THURSDAY) to do a little bass fishing? There was a 7 1/2 pound largemouth caught on Tuesday. I'll be up there around 1 or 2 PM fishing until dark. Get a hold on me on AIM at Armswithoutlegs

Thanks!

Centennial is in ellicott city/columbia just west of rt. 29 on rt. 108...you can also get there off of rt. 40 by going south on centennial lane....the boat ramp is at the 108 entrance and there's a $5 use fee or a $25 annual permit.

BPSeddie....deccided to tie some flies instead of fish this afternoon...how'd you all do?

Not too bad, nothing too big either though.

2 bass pushing the 2 pound range on a white XPS jerkbait
2 bass pushing the 10 inch range on an in-line spinner

Lost a monster of a bass, easily in the 5-6 pound area, right at my feet. Depressing, but we will meet again, so not too depressing.

It was just nice getting out there. Unfortunatly, work calls on friday. Hopefully have a chance to fish a local pond afterwards though.

Centennial can be fished from shore...It's 50 acres and most of it is fishable from shore. especially when the fish start spawning.

Wilde Lake, lake Kitamqundi(sp?), Lake elkhorn, Tridelphia, and Rocky Gorge are all the public lakes I can think of in Howard county.

I had a teacher who lived on wilde lake and fishd it all the time with some success, I hear elkhorn is pretty good, and centennial is too.

Centennial will get choked with weeds by the middle of May and will be tough to fish until the columbia triathalon when they kill the weeds for the swimming section.

check out the Howard county parks and rec website and you can find more info.

I fished it last Saturday and caught 12 on stickbaits. Good to hear some big one's are swimming around in there. Biggest we caught was pushing 3lbs., hooked near the dock area. Most fish were caught on the little points. Where did you hook the big one?

I hooked my big one out over by the dam on a BPS Worm, rigged Wacky style. Not telling the color [grin]

Yes, Centenial can easily be fished from shore. Some of the best places can't be fished from a boat, like under the pavilion/bait shack(had 2 there)

Elkhorn is alright if you know how to fish it. Its getting alot of pressure now from the trout fisherman, but if you stay away from them you can do good on white jerkbaits, carolina rigging french fries, and the ever popular lizard, or even the Limo Lizard.

Wilde Lake is absolutly wonderful if you hit it at the right time of day. A customer took me out there once at 11AM on a sunday, all he had were ratt'l traps. Silver/Blue Back. We both landed bass in the 7 pound range within 15 minutes. From the shore. But I've also been out there where I couldnt pay a fish to bite.

Never fish lake titamakundy. havnt heard of any big fish being taken from there. Tridelphi is nice, as is rocky gorge, but I dont know enough about the area to talk about it with any real confidence.

Tridelphia and Rocky Gorge are both WSSC reservoirs and require a special permit to fish. There is a daily permit or a yearly permit, which can be obtained at Brighton Dam, at the south end of Tridelphia. I have fished Rocky Gorge for the last 20 years, and there are plenty of largemouth and smallmouth in there. As it's name implies, it is rocky. Rocks, stumps, and fallen trees are the main structure, although there are some deeper water humps and boulders as well. My biggest from RG is 5lbs, but I have heard of 7 or 8lbers being caught.

I think that both of these reservoirs are best fished from a boat, although there are areas which can be fished from shore. I caught my largest bass at Rocky Gorge in Scotts Cove, which you are allowed to fish from shore.

My father fished the lake by Columbia Mall, where Clyde's and Tomato Palace are, on Saturday afternoon. He and my mother ate dinner, then walked around the lake. He said he caught 7 bass. They were between 13 and 18 inches, all caught on a white Rapala XRap jerkbait.
