Got Albe Broke's PM done Saturday so Sunday was a good day to sea trial. Departed Brady's Marina in Suffolk, after watching my first 2009 and surely not my last "No Ramp Etiquette" launch. Funny, you should never break line in a truck with your company logo plastered on the side, kinda easy to tell who you are.:nono:
Anyway, after waiting on the other guy prep for lauch on the ramp, try to pay without correct change at a drop box and pull into the spot at the head of the ramp used for straighing, I launched and preceeded out the creek to the Nansemond and the James. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, I was setting my antennas when he pulled up but he could have asked if I was close to ready and he should have had his rig ready to launch prior to taking the ramp.
Headind out the tide is dead low. All guages green. Stopped at a few of the "croker holes", they were there just no takers. Saw a couple of jon boaters with nice size fish but I didn't feel like setting the hook and waiting so I cruised up to Bennetts Creek to see if "In The Mix" was home but no joy so a quick peek at Bennetts Creek Marina Resturant and back out. For those debating on "open or closed" the Resturant is open but you need a life jacket to walk the dock.
So heading back toward Brady's I spot a real nice "Ocean Racer Go-Fast" in the shallows with engine compartment open and a drift with two guys, wife and child. I slowed and trimmed up, and assisted with a tow back to Brady's where I recoved my boat just as one of Suffolk's finest citizens tries to dock his boat into the starbord side of the go-fast I just towed in! Once the go-fast was on the trailer we looked at the damage, a nice scrape about 10" x 1" and of course the other boat ower preceeded to tell the owner of the go-fast (in his best attempt at English) how he did not do the damage. The real pizzer is that the owner of the go-fast just got back after 9 months in Afghanistan and his wife bought him the boat while he was gone AND he was taking her out for the first time!
Well, I gave them my number and told the soldier quitely, to let it go and just drop it. Not worth the trouble. I hope he took my advice and let it go.
Anyway, no fish, a good cruise with my wife and daughter and a humorous day at the boat ramp.
There's always next time.:fishing2:
