I'm going to be in Alexandria this weekend. I've never fished around there, but I'm bringing my canoe this time. I'm looking at Pohick Bay, the Potomac or the Occoquan (above or below the dam). Does anyone have any info about fishing those areas this time of year?

Ive fished the potomac in that area often from my canoe. There is a park at Theodore Roosevelt Island, which is off of the GW Parkway. Paddle south and fish the bridge pilings, or north and fish the rocks. The pilings at the 14th st bridge can be great. Minnows will catch small and largemoth bass, as well as huge catfish. If no minnows, I use 3 inch Kalin grubs, shad colored, on 1/4 or 1/8 ounce jigheads fished very slow. Another good spot to launch is at Fletchers Boat house. Good luck.
