trolled and jigged the bay bridge pilings saturday morning. original plan was to put in at elk neck state park but as i was driving over the bay bridge, the water just looked too good. ended up striking out at the bay bridge but what a beautiful morning to be out. if the flats stay consistent, might be up for heading there on friday night/saturday morning. any input on the best put in for kayaks would be greatly appreciated.

If coming up 95 just get off at Harve DeGrace and put in at the town park on the south end of town. Paddle east.

sounds like the park in town is the best place to put in. just hope the wind isn't too bad.

what did you troll? how far back? how deep?

i'm trying to figure out my trolling methods, 3 ounce parachute 50 feet back i would think would stay within 10 feet of the water column traveling about 2-3 miles an hour...at least i hope..lol

trolling is probably a generous term to use for what i do: i throw a 3/4 ox jighead with a big plastic (BA, BKD, tried the big scented grub tails on sat) about 50' behind my kayak, let it sink for :30, and then paddle parallel to the pilings. i'll try that after working a few sets of pilings when i want to try a different area. to be honest, most of my fish come from verticle jigging the structure or working the eddies in front, or behind the pilings.

I was hoping to beat the crowds and get out to the bridge during the week but the weather reports through aren't all that favorable for small craft. If I can't catch a break I may have to settle for Sunday & just hope I can catch an early fish and minimize the time that I have to contend with the trolling fleet.

i've honestly had most of the bridge to myself when i've fished it from my kayak. i put in by hemmingways. most of the boats are anchored off the pilings or trolling the channels. if the conditions are right, fishing out of a kayak can be super productive.

BG,
I agree- the most competition for the pilings comes during the summer livelining and jigging season. However, I've experienced some serious crowding from trollers around the bridge on weekends in the spring seasons.

Surprised I haven't run into you out at the bridge. I fish it about once a week between May and November. I'm usually in a red WS Ride 13.5 or an orange OK Prowler 15'.

In looking at the latest weather report, Thursday morning is looking like a possibility.

hey, steve.

i wouldn't call myself a bay bridge regular, but i do fish it when i can. i paddle a native ultimate 12, and it's not ideal for open water like that. i've never felt threatened out there, but i do pick my days. thinking about adding an OK prowler trident 13 into the mix for this type of fishing.

how have you done so far at the bridge this year? wondering if i should head up to the flats or stay closer to home.

thanks.
