Sat we headed out to the CBBT and tried the islands for tog with no success using clam, :confused:so on the way back we decided for the old faithful croaker bite by the HRBT. We caught and released most of about 50 croaker between the 2 of us in less that 2 hours:clap: size ranged between 6" and 1-1/2 lbs using squid. It was non stop fun to get some pullage:yes: near the end of our 4th drift I hook up again and when I boat this little brown fish (around 8" long) I knew it was no croaker, the slimy-ness, the 2 white "whiskers", and the white belly make me believe that this was a juvenille cobia. My buddy took a pic with his cell phone and I will try to post it here when it gets downloaded. Released said cobia to grow up and called it a day, bringing home about 15 of the biggest fish for family and a bit of a sunburn for me.

a Red Hake/Ling Cod... I suppose they could be dark like a cobia.

It sounds like a ling Cod to me also. Slimy though could be a catfish.

I have seen remora caught at the HRBT in the summer as well, but I don't know if they'd be in the bay this time of year since I know nothing about their migratory habits. If it had a disc on it's head, and looked like a cobia, it may have been a remora.

I stand corrected, after the replies here and some internet searches I believe it was a red hake. Thanks for the wealth of knowledge on here, and hopefully I will post with the same title of this thread later this summer with a picture of a no BS MONSTER Cobia.
