Gonna bait up a couple thousnd feet with eel and lips and take a trip to SR. If they are getting them at CT then I think its reasonable to attempt SR. It's Almost directly across the bay and up a little. I'll give the forecast some consideration though. If temps stay up and we don't get another monsoon I figure it's 50/50. Any opinions?

Bow,

Let us know how you do. I have not done any crabbing this early in the year, so I don't have any direct knowledge. I have always heard the best early MD crabbing is around Pt Lookout on the W shore and the lower E shore from the Choptank to Fishing Bay.

It seems a bit early given that the water temps have been lower this year than in several recent past years, but this really warm weather may get things started quickly.

Usually I don't hit SR until the first week in June. There are some good (fast sloping) points in there.

I used to do pretty good at the end of Apr. & the first of May. After that it slows down for the shed. That was in So.Md. George

Yea SR has a few spots that go from 30 ft to 5.5ft along the home fronts. I will leave it up to the upcoming temps. If we stay around 70 I will give her a shot. Hey they worst that happens is I through the baits back in the salt and brine. I will definitley keep ya posted. Gotta get this winder up and running first. Hint Hint cough cough

BM,
If by "SR" you mean that river just south of the Severn you're probably jumping the gun a little but you never know. I launched there last weekend and running out into the bay I saw quite a few crab traps in 20 - 25' just outside the river but I'm doubtful much is going on yet.

If I were you I'd drive a further south to Fishing Bay on the eastern shore. This time of year it's overrun with commercial guys that cover nearly every inch of the bay but you can find a place to work in and I've done well down there in early May the last couple years. Zillions of small and just legal crabs but you should be able to fill a basket if you hit a nice day.

Dropped 15 traps for S&G's on Sunday in the Chester. Much to my surprise, caught a few decent crab, mostly in 14 ft of water, some in a little less water. Only ran em 4 times and wound up with 6 keepers (biggest was 7 inches, and really muddy), but set em free to be caught at a later date. Too bad the cooler wx is coming back, but it still should only be a couple or three weeks away from good numbers in the mid bay rivers.

Crabfish, what bait did you offer the crabs?

Stop by at 2pm today. I don't have to be at the field until 5pm. I'll take alook at it.

Noone had any necks that I could find on short notice Sunday morn, so wound up going to the Food Lion on KI and picked up chicken "drummies" for a buck a package. Alittle time to skin em and we were set.
