OT - SC Cobia bite

Looks like the bite is on just a little south of us. Won't be too long... Can you tell I'm anxious?

"The cobia run has now officially started in the Broad River and Port Royal Sound area of South Carolina. Savannah angler Randy Lockett, called this past Friday to say that a 56-pounder reportedly was taken. He said the report came from a fishing camp near Beaufort - no reports as to who caught the fish. Lockett, who frequently fishing the area during the spawning run, said about 20 boat were anchored and fishing in the vicinity of the Broad River Bridge this past week. There are several locations on the Broad River - the bridge area in particular - where cobia can be located.
This is also true of the Port Royal Sound area at the north end of Hilton Head Island.

Cobia also should soon be showing up around the offshore buoys, such as those leading into Port Royal Sound and also the Savannah River channel, and also around the artificial reefs."

I hear ya man, not long now. There are reports of Cobia at the tower out of Hatteras as well.

Went out with a buddy of mine (Capt John Walpole) to see if we could get a cobia out on the channel markers that lead in to the Charleston harbor.
We didnt see them on the way out,,,,,but saw about 20 of them on the way back in.
We hooked up on the fish at 12:15 and put him in the boat at 12:50.
My buddy had to be back early, so one fish is all we had time for.

I have been scanning all the other boards I know of and watching the water temp. Can't wait but at least we have the drum until they are here.

Here's a little trick. Set up a gmail account (or not). Set up alerts on Google News for your search word or term and have them sent directly to your email. I have alerts for lots of terms, one being cobia and one being "red drum" (in quotes). You can also use Google's Reader and subscribe to search terms or words or phrases in Google News. You can also subscribe to terms on blogs. You will get more current fishing information in a day with no searching involved (other than the initial search) than you can read. I can step you through it if you like.

Dam....you got me Erik....I saw a post from Lurker with cobia in the subject line and I thought it was time. Got me excited there for a minute. Cobia is the only bay fish that gets me excited. Other fish may be fun but not exciting like a big cobia on your line.
