WAY WAY WAY OT.... Health Insurance

Brandon, I need to beg for your indulgence, please....

Guys, I run my own business.. It's me, myself and I. I have a family health plan with OCI.

In general terms, I have all the bells and whistles. Hospital, well care, dental, blah blah blah..

I'm 46, wife 42, kids 20 and 15... Five years ago, premium was $500 bucks a month.

Every year, premium has been raised $95 per month... Easy math, I'm looking at $980 starting in July...

No other way to say it... WTF ???????

Just curious.... Anybody have a better plan or someone I can call. $12 K a year is just ridiculous... OR am I just out of the loop, and should suck it up and pay it....

12k seems like the norm for a family plan.

Might look at bc/bs personal comp, raising the dedeuctable lowers the rate.

I am insurance broker... average family coverage is 1100/month... I am not sure what deductibles you are carrying but if you are healthy try to get a 2500 deductible plan. It might help out... I have one group who has a 1000 deductible and they pay 1700/month for family coverage. I know it stinks that it costs so much but just remember we are fortunate with the delivery system as it is. Best in the world!

Isn't owning your own business great :rolleyes:.

It sucks with the high preminums. A lot of families have one spouse take a regular job to cover health insurance.

Call around - some plans are better then others. I pay $850.00 but the coverage is more for MAJOR stuff. The normal stuff I just pay from pocket.

No easy way around it - tough right now with work being slow.

ECHO iam in same position and was paying 2500 a month, it was going to go to 3000. luckey my wife landed a part time job with state and now as of this month we are on theirs same top coverage but a 25.00 co pay thank goodness. rates are unbearable and watch out change of insure. if you have any preexisting stuff you could get jammed. small buss. gets screwed. good luck with search.

BTW, Ivette runs a small biz and what you are paying unfortunately is about right. Ivette just redid all the health insurance for the the people that she is in charge, family plans range are something like $1200/month, she was paying $1700 per family and managed to work it cheaper. Great guy here in Easton that is solid who we have worked with for many years made it happen.

Health care is going to kill us all,no pun intended there !!!!!! Where does it all stop at ?????? What are the insurance companies doing with all of the money ? Do all of the health care providers just charge all they can ?? With no limit in sight? This is the number one problem in America right now and it needs to get fixed !!!!!!!!!!!!

I know a lot of people are against any form of government run system, but my wife is Canadian and her brother still lives there. For a family of four he pays less than four hundred every three month for insurance. While there can be problems seeing a doctor on short order and the service may be slightly less than we have here in the states, they sure aren't getting raped by the insurance companies. And they have some pretty good specialist operating up there. I suspect that a lot of it comes from them not needing to carry malpractice insurance.
But then anyone that has ever had a loved one harmed by an incompetent doctor, I can understand them wanting restitution.
It is most definitely a two headed snake.
